Hannover 96
Hannoverscher Sportverein von 1896, commonly referred to as Hannover 96 (), is a German professional sports club based in Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony. Its senior men's football team competes in the 2. Bundesliga, the second tier of German football, after spending 30 seasons in the top-flight Bundesliga between 1964 and 2019. Founded on 12 April 1896, the multi-sport association has more than 22,000 members, making it the largest in Lower Saxony. Hannover 96 have won the German football championship twice (1938 and 1954) and lifted the DFB-Pokal in 1992, becoming the first second-division side to do so. The club also hold three 2. Bundesliga titles and have twice reached the quarter-finals of European competition, in the 1992–93 European Cup Winners' Cup and the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League. Niedersachsenstadion
Niedersachsenstadion (, ) is a football stadium in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany, which is home to football club Hannover 96. The original 86,000-capacity stadium was completed in 1954 and has since been rebuilt several times for various major football events. Today it has 49,000 covered seats. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup the stadium was named FIFA World Cup Stadium, Hanover. Through a sponsorship deal, the stadium's official name is currently Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena . Between 2002 and 2013 a similar arrangement saw the stadium renamed as the AWD-Arena ; from 2013 to 2022 the stadium was named HDI-Arena . History The stadium was built from 1952 to 1954, with an original capacity of 86,000. Ferdinand-Wilhelm Fricke
Ferdinand Wilhelm Fricke (October 11, 1863 – January 17, 1927) was a German teacher and, at the age of 15, founder of the Deutscher FV 1878 Hannover, the oldest rugby union club in Germany. Fricke was also the first chairman of the German Rugby Federation. Biography F.W.F., as he was called throughout most of his life, was born on 11 October 1863 in Hannover, which was then the capital of the Kingdom of Hanover. As a 15-year-old, in 1878, Fricke, as a member of the ''Realgymnasium'' in Hannover, like many of his school mates, watched English expatriates play rugby and association football in the ''English Hannover Football-Club''. Regionalliga Nord (1963–74)
The Regionalliga Nord () is the fourth tier of the German football league system in the states of Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen and Hamburg. It is one of five leagues at this level, together with the Regionalliga Bayern, Regionalliga Nordost, Regionalliga Südwest and the Regionalliga West. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the third tier. 1954 FIFA World Cup
The 1954 FIFA World Cup was the 5th edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international Association football, football tournament for senior men's national teams of the nations affiliated to FIFA. It was held in Switzerland from 16 June to 4 July. Switzerland was selected as the FIFA World Cup hosts#1950 and 1954 FIFA World Cups, host country in July 1946. At the tournament, several all-time records for goalscoring were set, including the highest average number of goals scored per game. Oberliga Nord (1947-63)
The Oberliga Nord was the fourth tier of the German football league system in the north of Germany. It covered the states of Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. With the introduction of the 3. Liga, the league ceased to exist from 2008. The Gauliga Niedersachsen was the highest football league in the Prussian Province of Hanover and the German states of Bremen, Brunswick, Schaumburg-Lippe and Oldenburg from 1933 to 1945.
